South Devon Farmers Markets

Farmers' Markets
Farmers' markets are held monthly in Ivybridge, Kingsbridge, and Totnes. The dates of these events can be seen on the farmer's market calender below. They provide an additional sales opportunity for local producers and provide local people with the opportunity to purchase fresh, home-grown local produce.  They are very popular with locals and visitors and have been shown to increase trade in local shops on the days that they occur.

  • The three most important reasons for visiting a market are:
    -support local producers;
    - good quality;
    - direct from producer.
  • Over 90% of consumers are local people
  • 58% of spending visitors were from within 2 miles of a market and 90% from within 10 miles
  • Majority of visitors to South Hams Farmers' Markets are over 45 yrs old
  • Over 70% of consumers are female
  • Though fewer in number, a higher proportion of male consumers spend more at farmers' markets
  • Majority of purchasers spend less than £10.00
  • Nearly 90% of visitors make a purchase at market
  • Nearly 30% of consumers buy organic produce
  • 95% believe farmers' market produce to be value for money.  This percentage is greater for organic produce
  • A clear majority at each market believe theirs to be ‘better than’ or ‘same as’ other farmers’ markets visited
