A beautiful leafy walk following the amber waters of the River Avon through classic English woodland, starting and finishing in the tranquil village of Loddiswell.

  • Start: Loddiswell car park
  • Distance: 3.5 miles
  • Circular walk: Yes
  • Grade: Easy to moderate
  • Terrain: Surfaced roads and paths; green lane, with some erosion in places; country and riverside footpaths.
  • Obstacles and steep gradients: 4 stiles (2 can by bypassed); 2 flights of steps; 1 steep ascent.
  • Accessibility: This route is not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
  • Refreshment stops: Loddiswell Inn 01548 550308. Avon Mill Garden Centre Cafe serves lunches, snacks, drinks; open 7 days a week 01548 550066.
  • Toilets: Public toilets at Loddiswell car park.
  • Parking: Free parking in Loddiswell car park.
  • Other facilities: Post Office, village stores and pay phone in Loddiswell.

Directions

Map

Turn left out of car park and left again.  Follow the tarmac lane to the left of the church. 

At Ham Butts go straight on towards Reads Farm.  Just before the farm, bear right onto a public footpath.

Follow the path alongside the stream, and turn left at the bottom, to follow the riverside footpath.

Cross the river at the old railway bridge, and turn right along the path which follows both the route of the old railway line and the river. 

Turn right at the road, by the old railway station.  Pass under the railway bridge then turn right onto public footpath along the river.  At the road, turn right over the bridge and follow the lane up hill. 

At the second left hand bend, take the second right up the rough track.  Fork left past the drive entrance to Cloverwell Farm.

Turn left at Ham Butts.  Follow the lane past the church and back into the village.  Turn right after the post office, and then right again into the car park.
